The boys were in Dordrecht this week. The pitch was very nice. The best we have had to date. Soft under feet and a lot of grass. Unfortunately, the weather was miserable. There were light showers when we arrived – but as the game progressed the weather became worse! Goal for today’s game: continue building from last week.

We only had 16 players. It was great to have Bart back on dry land. He was able to join his brother, Jeroen, on the field and in the Oemie colours. Niels played his first competition game this year and managed a full 80 minutes despite having returned from injury.

The game started off well with Jesse scoring his first try of the season during the opening five minutes. Monty followed up with an easy conversion. The wet conditions meant there were a lot of knock ons and the ball spent too much time on the ground. It was a messy game. Our scrummaging was consistently good though, and our lineouts had improved from the previous week. We had a firm lead of 40 points by half time only conceding a try.

The second half included a lot more open play with our boys finding holes in a tired defensive line. Young Max did well in support play and although he did not get a lot of ball, he stayed wide and was always an option for our try scorers. Menno made some bone crunching tackles throughout the game and was awarded with player of the day for his efforts. Injury reduced our team to 14 players late in the second half. Batavieren took advantage of our misfortune and scored again. In the end we gained five converted tries and brought home another win. Coach Monty was happy the boys maintained playing as a team for the full 80. The final score 75 – 10.
